    Most of Watney Street has been redeveloped since these cards were produced. There still exists a newsagent by the name of Fielding, but is not connected to the previous Fielding who produced these fine postcard views of the surrounding area c.1905 onward. Little is known of the originator of these cards and how many were produced. Naturally, we would be pleased to hear of and/or recieve details of other cards by this publisher

  • Statue of Queen Alexandra - portrait view - the first and only statue of Queen Alexandra, London Hospital
    This firm was founded by Alexander Bloom about 1896, opposite the London Hospital in Whitechapel Road, printing cap labels and songsheets. By 1908 the firm was producing postcards from #7 Houndsditch. Comic cards formed a large part of the firm's output. Many topical cards were produced, including those of the east end siege photographed by Alexander Bloom himself. The firm apears to have ceased in the 1930s.     Seager's was for many years a stationer's and bookshop; no doubt it was the reason for  producing these local views in the 'Golden Age'. The building remains in East India Dock Road; in recent years it was a Florists shop, today it is a chicken restaurant/take away.
