The East End Siege
The Battle with the Anarchists in East London, January 3rd 1911
This event was featured by many publishers at the time and remains a popular theme for Political and Local postcard collectors.  One of the first to portray the event was the East London Printing Co, a local firm.
Alexander Bloom , the firm's owner, took the photos himself and the postcards were printed and on sale that very same evening.  They were transported up to the West End by groups of  'boys' whom he employed to sell songsheets etc. to the waiting theatre crowds.  One of the cards featuring Winston Churchill, then the English Home Secretary, sold in  thousands upon thousands.
